Nsukka is a town and local government area in Enugu State, southeast Nigeria. Nsukka is home to members of the Igbo ethnic group. The history of Nsukka is traced back to the earlier traders from Arochukwu (present-day Abia State) who settled down in the region. In July 1967, Nsukka was one of the first Biafran towns to be captured by the Nigerian forces during the Nigerian-Biafran War. Nsukka shares a common border with Edem, Opi, Obimo and Ede-Oballa. The towns like Enugu-Ezike and Uzo Uwani now are also referred to as Nsukka, because they fall into the political zoning system. Nsukka has a tropical climate with an average annual temperature of about 24.9 °C. The inhabitants of this city are predominantly Igbos. The Igbo people have a known cultural heritage expressed in their dressing, music, dance, festivals and crafts. The city’s economy is highly dependent on agriculture and trade.

Nsukka, Enugu State, counts among its facilities, several clinics and hospitals. The city adopted the free maternal and child healthcare programme to ease the burden on pregnant women and under-five children. The Enugu museum houses various relics from the post-colonial era and several military defence artefacts from the Biafra war. It boasts of several touristic attractions such as Ezeagu Tourist Complex, Awhum Cave and Waterfall, Iheneke Lake and the Polo Amusement Park that are open for fishing, swimming, picnics and studies. The Old Government Lodge, which is considered a national treasure, containing the belongings of Nigeria’s first President, is found in this city.
