The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is a public university located in Ho, Volta Region, Ghana. It was recognized by an Act of parliament in 2011 and is one of the twin public universities established by the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2012. The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is a public university located in Ho, Volta Region, Ghana. It was recognized by an Act of parliament in 2011 and is one of the twin public universities established by the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2012. It is a Chinese funded project with Phase 1 completed in 2015.

The University aims to foster the desire to learn and holds as values excellence, integrity, innovations, service and care. It has 2 campuses; Ho Campus which is the main campus and Hohoe Campus.

UHAS is the first public university to be established in the Volta Region of Ghana dedicated only to medical training in the country. The university started its Medical School in 2014 with about 50 students.

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), a painless and complication-free procedure for Glaucoma treatment, was first introduced in Ghana by UHAS School of Medicine.

A UHAS student was honoured with the overall best student of the year at the maiden Inter Tertiary Excellence Awards- ITEA 2018.  Another student from the university was crowned the first runner up in the 6th ARSO Essay competition for 2018/2019 organized by the Ghana Standards Authority.

In 2019, Ghana’s Finance Minister and the Chinese Ambassador signed a memorandum of understanding securing US$60 million from the Chinese government to implement Phase 2 of UHAS’s development that will include School of Nursing and Midwifery, Equipment room, central administration block, and supporting facilities.

Moreso, in the same year, the UHAS Debate Society team won the maiden Regional Inter-Universities Championship debate. The university counts over 3,752 students (3727 undergraduates and 25 postgraduates) and 611 staff.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences provides its staff and students several facilities to ease their stay on campus. Each campus provides accommodation for the students and staff, as well as a cafeteria.

There are different science laboratories and a computer laboratory available for the students to carry out practicals. UHAS campuses also provide an GH¢8 million auditorium, a teaching hospital, accommodations, an IT centre and a library.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
UNDERGRADUATE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates applying for undergraduate programmes must have the following:
Applicants must have obtained credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE) in the following core subjects: English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies.
Applicants must have obtained three (3) credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE) in the following Elective Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics.
IGCSE/IB – To be admitted to the Programme, IGCSE/IB holders must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL/’O’ Level), in addition to three Higher Level (HL-A to C)/’A’ Level (A to D)/IB2 (A-C) grades in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: Applicants should, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have three (3) passes in Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Mathematics at the Advanced Level.
 American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations

Mature entry
Applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology/ Pharmacy Technician Course or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (3) years of relevant working experience. OR
Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the application forms and must have five (5) credits at O-level including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

International students
Senior Secondary School Certificates (WASSCE).
International Baccalaureate (IB).
GCE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels.
IGSCE (Cambridge) – ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels.
American High School Grade – Grades 12&13 examinations.
Other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSCE and the GCE (A Levels).
Baccalaureate (From French-speaking countries), and other Foreign High School Diploma equivalent to WASSCE.
* NB: Foreign Certificates must receive authentication and equivalencies from Ghana National Accreditation Board, Foreign students must have their high school certificates and diplomas translated into English if they are not written in English.

POSTGRADUATE REQUIREMENTS
For Masters Programme
Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.2 GPA) from a recognised University.
Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
Applicants must pass an entrance examination and/or an admission interview.
Candidates with three (3) years of relevant working experience are preferred.

For PhD Programme
Applicants must hold an MPhil or MSc. in Medical Imaging, Therapy Radiography, Nuclear Medicine or related MI area from a recognised University.
Applicants must have at least three years of work experience as a diagnostic or therapy radiographer, mammographer, sonographer or other related MI specialities.
Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
Applicants must pass an admission interview.
Research proposal (not more than 700 words).
Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words).

For Sandwich Programme
A holder of a certificate from the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service training schools, Ministry of Local Government institutions and other accredited health training schools who have practised for three years or more may apply.
A holder of a diploma in any Health Care discipline or Environmental Health discipline with a minimum FGPA of 1.50 or above who has served in a Health Care position or an Environmental Health position for three years or more may apply.
A holder of certificate/diploma awarded by recognised teacher training colleges, who has taught for three years or more, may apply.
Applicants should upload a scanned copy of their Certificates, Professional Identification Number (PIN) or Auxiliary Identification Number (AIN), and their Academic Transcripts.

International students
Holders of Certificates/Diplomas in any of the health care disciplines or environmental health disciplines and related fields who have practised for three years or more may apply.
Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
In addition, international applicants must satisfy the professional entry requirements determined by the relevant professional body.

HOW TO APPLY
For Ghanaian Applicants

Fee-Paying Applicants: Those who wish to be considered for FEE PAYING option in case they are unable to make the cut-off point(s), should tick the column provided on the online application form for FEE PAYING option.
In completing the online form, applicants will be required to upload their passport size photograph with a white background.
Upon completing the application process, print three (3) copies of the PREVIEW PAGE (i.e. application summary), then submit online before the closing date.
Applicants are advised to check thoroughly all details entered before they finally submit their online applications. A form, once submitted cannot be edited.
Upon printing the application summary, applicants should sign the declaration page.
WASSCE/SSSCE or equivalent applicants should attach 3 copies of each result slip.
Access Course / Top-Up / MPhil /MPH applicants should attach their transcripts and certificates.
Applicants should purchase UHAS EMS envelopes (one big size envelope and one quarto size self-address envelope) from the nearest Ghana Post office.
The application documents and the result slips in addition to the quarto size self-addressed envelope should be put in the big UHAS EMS envelope and be submitted at the nearest Ghana Post office.

*For religious purpose, scarfs are allowed but both ears must be exposed in the picture.
*Wearing of glasses/shades are not allowed, except for medical purpose, clear glasses revealing the eyes are permitted.
*All application document(s) should be submitted via Ghana Post. The University will not accept any application document DIRECTLY from applicants.
*Applicants should note that the picture used in the admission process will appear on all subsequent files, documents and portals (Student identity card) when admitted as a student of University of Health and Allied Sciences.

For Foreign Applicants
 Access the online form by visiting our online admission portal at and click on “Click to apply as a Foreign Student”.
An activation code will be sent to your mobile number and email address.
Go to Form Type and select Foreign Student. Use the activation code to access the application form.
Applicants will be required to upload their passport size photograph (not more than 400KB) with a white background.
After filling the online form, print out three copies of the preview page (application summary). Then submit online.
Scan the application summary, your pay-in-slip and certificates/results slips into one PDF or WORD document and send as an attachment to admissions@uhas.edu.gh.
Applicants should note that no application will be processed without proof of payment of the application fee.

Ho has an estimated population of about 70,000 majorily inhabited by the Heve and Bankoe people. Its yearly temperature varies from 22°C to 35°C. The town’s economy is defined by agriculture with cacao cultivation being their most prominent production alongside with palm oil and cotton.

The city is home to several tourist sites, some of which are the Wli Waterfalls, the Mount Afadjato and the Volta Regional Museum. The principal means of transportation in the town is a taxi, and it also has an airport known as the HO Airport for people to travel in and out of the country.

The town is a conducive area for studies as it houses some educational institutions like the Nursing Training College and the Evangelical Presbyterian University College.
