Takoradi is a city located in the Western Region of Ghana. It got its name from the combination of the Portuguese word Taccarada and a local word Ntakor. The city was formerly called Amanful-kro meaning Amanful’s town by its local inhabitants, the Ahantas.
In 1485, the Portuguese built a slave post and called it Taccarada, while the local people called it Ntakorase. However, the Portuguese could not pronounce the name Ntakorase and the people could not pronounce the name Taccarada. With time they merged the name to Tacorrasi, and later Takoradze, then finally before 1800, the British and the Fantes made it Takoradi.
Takoradi has an annual temperature which varies from 23.3°C to 31.1°C. The city’s economy is characterized by oil production and its known as the Oil City of Ghana.

The city houses several beaches with small resorts as Fanta’s Folly, the Hideout, and Green Turtle Lodge. The Busua Beach, Lou Moon Lodge and Axim Beach Resort, and the village of Nzulezu are popular sites of tourist.
Some top companies in the city include Cynex IT solutions and Consult, Takoradi Renewable Power Resources Limited, Digital Gateway, Wyll Technologies Ghana, and Media Ghana Services Ltd.
