St. John’s University of Tanzania (SJUT), is a non-profit private institution located in Dodoma, Tanzania. Its origin dates back in 1999, as an idea to the Anglican Church of Tanzania at the Synod Meeting.
The importance to establish a university was emphasized by the Archbishop Donal Mtetemela, in order to provide higher education in the different aspects of education in Tanzania, which will respond to the country’s needs to meet up with the Sustainable Development Goals.
SJUT was then established in September 2007 and integrated under a charter prescribed by the Tanzania Universities Act of 2005. The institution started with more than 800 students, pursuing undergraduate degrees in education, nursing, pharmacy, and business administration in several specializations in 2007, and now, has grown significantly in students’ population and academic programmes.

SJUT has just a campus known as Chief Mazengo Campus. The university’s most popular schools are the School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. SJUT is affiliated to the Anglican Church of Tanzania, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
It has a mission, to assume responsibility for providing and maintaining high-quality education and training in the theological, social, scientific and technological disciplines.

SJUT offers its student with a university library with a sitting capacity of 400 users and a size of the collection of about 60000 volumes, as well as an e-library with 23 computers, which allows students to access information through the internet. More so, its campus provides accommodation for its students, and a university dispensary.
A university chapel is present on campus to build the spiritual life and moral values of the students. Never the less, a cafeteria is available on campus to provide food for its students and staff. The students partake in recreational and healthy activities like sports and games such as football, volleyball, netball and basketball.
