Kimberley is the capital city of the Northern Cape Province. The city got its name from the Colonial Secretary, Lord Kimberley on July 1873. Kimberley was the initial hub of industrialization in South Africa in the late 19th century, which transformed the country’s agrarian economy into one more dependent on its mineral wealth. It housed the country’s first stock exchange, the Kimberley Royal Stock Exchange.
The city is mixed with diverse religion with the pre-eminent denominations being Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism. Its annual average temperature varies from 2.2°C to 32.2°C.

The city is home to several sites of attraction such as the Big Hole, the Mokala National Park, the Kimberley Mine Museum, and the Sol Plaatje Museum.
