Osun State University, also known as UNIOSUN, is an accredited state university located in Osogbo, south-western Nigeria. The university was established in December 2006 by the Nigerian State House of Assembly. After the submission of the requisite documents needed for the Osun State University, the National Universities Commission had them reviewed, approved & granted recognition as the 80th university in Nigeria. UNIOSUN is a multi-campus university and it operates on 6 different campuses, namely: the Osogbo campus, the Ikire campus, the Okuku campus, the Ifetedo campus, the Ipetu Ijesha campus, and the Ejigbo campus.

Osun State University is known as Nigeria’s 30th State University. UNIOSUN signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Alabama University, USA which enables it to train its students on the Alabama University campus. Thirty-one students from UNIOSUN passed the 2018 Ukraine National Medical Final Exams. To that effect, the Osun State governor sent these students to Ukraine to complete their medical studies. UNIOSUN in partnership with BBC hosted a gubernatorial debate on the university’s main campus.

Osun State University possesses several academic and non-academic facilities that foster the students’ academic and social life. These facilities include a teaching hospital, a multidisciplinary research laboratory, a sports centre (with sections for Athletics Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Scrabble, Soccer, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis & Volleyball), lecture halls, an auditorium, an online repository for journals, articles & thesis, a physical library, and accommodation services. A renowned business mogul and richest woman in Africa, Dr. Folorunso Alakija pledged to build a world-class paediatric hospital at Osun State University.

Osun State University accepts applications from local and international students for its Bachelors, Masters and PhD level programmes.

Bachelor’s Programmes: The two main ways to get admission into UNIOSUN are either through “JAMB UTME Exam” or “Direct Entry”.
  Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates:
➤ Candidates should have one of the following qualifications; Cambridge A’Level, GCE A’Level, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB.
➤ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➤ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➤ Direct entry candidates do not need to write JAMB UTME. They just need to acquire and fill the JAMB Direct Entry Form.
*After a satisfactory admission screening or entrance test/interview, you will be directly admitted to the 200 Level (second year) course of your choice.
*Credit level pass in Mathematics is required for all science-based, Social Sciences and Management Science courses.
  Admission Requirements for JAMB UTME Candidates:
➨ Candidates seeking admission into 100 Level (first year) are required to write the JAMB UTME exam and score at least 180.
*Those who chose UNIOSUN as their first choice and scored 180 & above in the JAMB UTME will then write UNIOSUN’s Post UTME exam.
*Successful candidates will be given admission after consideration of their score at both the JAMB UTME and UNIOSUN’s Post UTME exam.
➨ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➨ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) in 3 relevant subjects plus English language. It must be in not more than two sittings.
*Credit level pass in Mathematics is required for all science-based, Social Sciences and Management Science courses.
➨ Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired bachelor’s degree programme/course.
➨ Candidates must also meet the stipulated Post UTME cut-off mark for their desired/chosen bachelor’s programme.

Master’s Programmes: To qualify for Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a First/Bachelor’s degree from UNIOSUN or any other recognised university.

PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Master’s degree from UNIOSUN or any other recognised university.

HOW TO APPLY
Osun State University has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment into its institution. Hence, the applicant should visit the website: https://www.funai.edu.ng/ admission/ to create an account, choose a course and follow all other relevant steps on the application process.  UNIOSUN’s cut off mark for both the JAMB is 160 and 180 for UTME Score. The application period into UNIOSUN generally runs during the months of July and August.

Osun State is an inland state in the south-western region of Nigeria with its capital at Osogbo. It has a total population of over 704,690. Osun State was created in 1991 from part of the old Oyo State. The name Osun is derived from the river Osun, the venerated natural spring representing the Yoruba goddess with the same name. Osun State was created after a series of pressure mounted on the federal military government for an extended period by the founding fathers (most of whom were traditional rulers and community leaders). The state was created with 30 local government areas and over 200 towns, villages & other settlements. Osun State has a tropical climate with an average annual temperature of 26.1 °C. The main tribe of Osun State is Yoruba that practice a yearly cultural festival every August, along the banks of the river bearing. People of the state practice Islam, Christianity and paganism called traditional faith. Osun’s economy is based mainly on agriculture, and its major crops include yams, cassava, corn, beans, millet, plantains, cacao, palm oil and kernels, and fruits.

Osun State has an extensive road network that connects to other states such as the Kwara State and Owu-Ogun State. This road network maintains boundary highways, intercity roads, township roads, local government roads and rural roads. The city also encourages air movements within and out of state through its international airport dubbed: the MKO Abiola International Airport. Osun maintains the Ede Water Works to achieve an abundant flow of clean pipe-borne water across the state. Osun possesses numerous cultural landmarks with historical and cultural significances such as the Ife Museum (that collects and preserves relics of antiquities that are found in Ile Ife), the museum of arts (the best museum of arts in Nigeria), the African Heritage Gallery and the Nike Centre for Arts & Culture (that enrols students to enable them to sell their works). Some notable companies in the state include SpyLoadedNG Media, Dc Heavenly Gate, 3REE Interior Design & Maintenance, Royal Park International Hotel & Resort, Shaddle Field Farms that may serve as important areas for the pursuance of internships and employment. The state encourages sports through its 10,000 person capacity, multi-use stadium. Osun has several accommodation services of varying options, affordable to both students and visitors. Finally, the city maintains several public and private medical centres that cater to the needs of the city’s inhabitants. Carefully assessing the facilities mentioned above may serve as important deciding factors in studying at UNIOSUN.

Scholarships

Osun State grants scholarships through the Osun State Government Scholarship Scheme. The scholarships are aimed at assisting bright and needy students further their education.

To qualify for the Osun State government Scholarship Award Scheme, applicants must;
  -Be Osun State indigene
  -Have Five credit grades in WASC/GCE/SSCE including Maths, English and 3 other relevant subjects obtained in one sitting.

For undergraduate students, the applicant must be a full-time (100 LEVEL) degree students of the under-listed courses in Osun State (Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State College of Technology Esa-Oke, Osun State Polytechnic, Osun State University, Federal Polytechnic Ede).
