The October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, also known as MSA, is an accredited private university located in 6th of October City, Giza Governorate, Egypt. This university was founded by Dr Nawal El Degwi in the year 1996. It gained official recognition by presidential decree no 244 of 1996 that entrusted MSA the mission to pursue educational excellence and provide the best educational options. In 2001, the university received validation from the Middlesex University, enabling it to grant a dual-origin bachelor’s degree to its graduates. In 2004, it received another validation from the University of Greenwich. Afterwards, it got affiliated with institutions like Virginia Tech and the Ohio State University of the USA.
October University for Modern Sciences and Arts is the first Egyptian university to grant its graduates, a dual-origin bachelor’s degree; namely a British degree from Middlesex (2002-2014), Bedfordshire (2014-present) or Greenwich (2002–present) universities, and another Egyptian degree which is accredited by the Egyptian Supreme Council for Universities. It regularly hosts international events and conferences, the most recent of which are the 6th Cairo International Exhibition for Innovation, and the Parametric Thinking international conference. Some departments of the institution undertake volunteer trips to other parts of Africa. In 2019, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – Faculty of Dentistry at MSA, undertook a journey to the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya and they ended up detecting more than 150 cases, they conducted 76 surgeries and delivered 11 lectures to raise awareness on oral and dental health at various stages of life. MSA maintains a total student population of over 8,029 and a staff strength of over 2,500 persons.
October University for Modern Sciences and Arts provides several academic and non-academic facilities for its students. Some of these facilities include 60 scientific laboratories, over 20 computer laboratories, a dental out-patient clinic, 8 dental operation theatres, 130 lecture halls, a cinema hall, a theatre (with 1000 persons seating capacity), 30 cafeterias, 2 large mass communication studios, 15 media editing/processing laboratories, sports centres (6 football fields, 2 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts and a world-class Gym), wireless network all over campus, 24 auditoriums and an opera house.

Bachelor’s Programmes: To qualify for Bachelor’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess one of these examinations: the Egyptian Thanaweya Amma Degree (National High School Certificate), IGCSE, GCSE, American High School Diploma, Abitur, IB, French BACC or the National High School Certificate from Arab Countries.
■ Possess a minimum of 8 O’Level subjects at IGCSE & GCSE or American Diploma.
■ Undergo an English Proficiency exam.
■ Provide documentation proving that they have spent at least 12 successive years in education.
*NB: The Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities specifies the subjects required for admission, the minimum percentage for admission and the maximum number of newcomers accepted in each faculty, which varies from one year to the other.
Master’s Programmes: To qualify for Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Bachelor’s degree from MSA or any other recognised university.
PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Master’s degree from MSA or any other recognised university.
HOW TO APPLY
The October University for Modern Sciences and Arts has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment. Hence, prospective applicants should visit the website: http://newcomerapplication.msa.edu.eg/ and follow all relevant information about the application process. It is worth noting that all new students must have approved payment orders from the admission office before making any payments. Finally, the institution demands an application fee. The application period into MSA generally runs from July to October.

6th of October City is a satellite city in Giza that serves as the capital of the 6th of October Governorate in Egypt. The city was established in 1979 by the 504th presidential decree of the Egyptian president Anwar El Sadat. The city was initially part of the Giza Governorate, but in 2008, it was separated and made a separate governorate. Its location is 32 km south of Cairo. The name 6th of October City refers to the Egyptian’s military victory of October, 1973 during the October-Yom Kippur War, in which the Egyptian military successfully crossed the Suez Canal.
The 6th of October City features a desert climate with an average annual temperature of 20.3°C. The city’s economy is highly dependent on private businesses, import/export and tourism. It is also the seat of the numerous higher institutions of learning, and it boasts some of Egypt’s finest universities like the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, Misr University for Science and Technology and the October 6 University.
