Akwa is the capital of Anambra State, Nigeria. Akwa is strategically located midway between two major cities in Northern Igboland, Onitsha and Enugu. Akwa is one of the oldest settlements in the Igboland, established at the centre of the Nri civilisation. In ancient times, Akwa was populated by elephants and a section of the town named Amaenyi that served as a drinking spot for elephants. Before the British rule, Akwa was governed by titled men known as Ozo and Ndichie, who were considered blacksmith masters. Akwa is currently administered by the Akwa South Local government and serves as the capital of Anambra state.

Akwa is generally described as a uni-cultural State where norms, taboos, customs and traditions are homogenous. Their culture is displayed in their cuisines, dressings, dances and beliefs. This city has a humid climate with a temperature of about 31°C. The city’s economy depends mainly on its natural resources such as natural gas, crude oil, bauxite and ceramic. Akwa provides a host of facilities for the conducive living of its inhabitants.
These facilities include; the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the Umuleri Airport that service flight in and out of the city. The Rojenny Tourist Village is a touristic facility that opens its doors to everyone. Another famous landmark in the city is the River Niger Bridge that connects south-eastern Nigeria with western Nigeria. The city also boasts of the Supreme Taste Fries and several affordable restaurants & markets. To encourage worshipping, the city possesses the All Saints Cathedral.
