The National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) is a public institution located in Lusaka, Zambia. It was established in 1963 by the British Colonial Government as a Staff Training College (STC).
The decision of its establishment arose out of the perceived dearth of experienced African administrators and skilled personnel, to take over the administration and management of the public service on the country’s attainment of independence on the 24th October 1964.
The college was focused on providing management, supervisory and clerical training to African Civil Servants working for the colonial civil service in Zambia. In 1963, STC had its first cohort of human resource that were prepared to manage the various sectors of the economy, aspects of the judiciary, administrative roles and other tasks.
Later in 1966, STC focused on equipping human resource to manage the public sector, and by the end of the year, it was transformed into the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) with the main aim on training the post-independence civil and public servants in management.
According to the NIPA Act, number 15 of 1998, NIPA was transformed from a conventional government training institution, into an autonomous and self-financing one, and began its operations in January 2000.

The National Institute of Public Administration has four campuses namely the Main Campus (Lusaka), the Ndola Campus, the Burma Campus (Lusaka) and the Livingstone Campus, and counts over 4,300 students. It is a member of the Association of African Universities (AAU).
The institution has a mission to efficiently and effectively provide innovative market-driven training, research and consultancy services for sustainable development.
It holds firm to its core values which are Integrity, Transparency, Confidentiality, Accountability, Team Work, Selflessness, Professionalism, and Innovativeness.

The Institution offers its student with academic facilities like a library which provides services like online resources, free computer usage with internet access for research and browsing, research support, reprographic services, reference services, and a library lounge. It has as well a Conference centre auditorium.
Moreover, NIPA offers non-academic facilities such as hostels, the NIPA clinic, the America Corner, and sporting activities like chess.

The National Institute of Public Administration is one of the leading providers of high-quality professional management and business training, research and consultancy services in Zambia. It was given a recognition award by the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) in the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance Degree Programme (BAF) in June 2020.
This recognition grants all BAF students from NIPA who wish to further their studies in the Chartered Accounting (CA) Zambia programme, to be exempted from CA Knowledge and Application levels in all subjects.

The National Institute of Public Administration has graduated some notable alumni like Innocent Chikwanda – Planner, Development/Project Specialist and Mwamba Siame – MTN Zambia Events Manager.

The National Institute of Public Administration is located in Lusaka. Other universities located in this city are the Texila American University, the Lusaka Apex Medical University, the Eden University, the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce, the University of Lusaka and the University of Zambia.

Lusaka is the capital city of Zambia. It is also the largest city in the country. It is located in the southern part of the country. Lusaka has a population of about 1.7 million. The city was the site of a village that stood near the current location of the Zambian National Assembly and bore the name of its Chief Lusaka.
In the 1890s, the area was taken over by the British South Africa Company as part of the formation of Northern Rhodesia. Control was handed over to the British Colonial Office in 1924, and in 1935 Lusaka became the capital of Northern Rhodesia, replacing Livingstone.
Since then the city has grown to become the commercial and administrative centre of Zambia. English is the official language of the city, but Chewa and Bemba are commonly spoken on the streets.
Lusaka has a humid subtropical climate – it experiences five distinct seasons that vary between high humidity and heavy rainfalls, cold nights and sunny weather, and an increase in temperatures. Average annual temperatures vary between 13.7°C and 27.5°C.
The city is reliant on its agricultural environs, corn and tobacco collection, but it is also a hub for cement, textile, shoe manufacturing, and food processing.

Lusaka boasts several cultural attractions and museums like the Lusaka National Museum, the Political Museum, the Zintu Community Museum, the Freedom Statue, the Zambian National Assembly and the Agricultural Society Showgrounds that host an annual agricultural show. The city equally counts a pottery factory, a theatre, two cinemas, and the Munda Wanga Environmental Park, with a zoo and botanical gardens.
