Maseno is found in Kisumu County, Kenya. It is located about some 25 kilometres from Kisumu, the former provincial capital. Maseno is the headquarters of Maseno Division, one of four administrative divisions of Kisumu District. The growth of the town is often attributed to the coming of missionaries in Kenya. It has a population of 2199 people as per a 2009 census. The town is home to people from various ethnicities, and even a few Asians and Caucasians. Maseno Town has a tropical climate, experiencing a great deal of rainfall even in January, the driest month of the year. The economy of Maseno is closely linked to Maseno University; the University employs most of its staff among residents of Maseno Town, and Maseno University students spend most of their allowances on expenses in Maseno Town. The multi-ethnic nature of the town also contributes to the local economy, with most of the population involved in various economic sub-sectors in the region.

The town of Maseno is qualified as an urban centre, and as such boasts a well-maintained road network. The convenient method for transport is motorcycles or bicycles, locally called “Matatus”. Maseno neighbours two major towns in Kisumu County, which are Kisumu Town and Vihiga Town. The hub of educational institutions in Maseno is a prime attracting factor for potential students.
