The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, also known as LAUTECH, is a state university located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, south-western Nigeria. The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, also known as LAUTECH, is a state university located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, south-western Nigeria. The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology was officially established in April 1990. The university traces its roots back to 1987 when the then military governor of Oyo State, Adetunji Olurin, received a solicitation from the governing council of Polytechnic, Ibadan, to establish a State University. On the 9th of February 1990, a committee of distinguished academics chaired by Prof. E. A. Tugbiyele reviewed the administrative and infrastructural plans for the new university and submitted a report to the government. On the 13th of March 1990, the Federal Government approved the State’s request to set up the new University. Hence, on the 23rd of April 1990, the university was established and on the 19th of October 1990, the university welcomed its first batch. The university currently operates two campuses namely; the Ogbomosho and Osogbo campuses.

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology is known for having held the title of the best university in Nigeria by the NUC for two consecutive seasons (2003-2004). Also, a graduating student from LAUTECH built a drone from locally-sourced materials in 2016. A student from LAUTECH was part of the Nigerian Team Triarchy to win the Ideatrophy competition. This competition brought different teams of undergraduates from Ghana and Nigeria to compete with the best business idea. The Osun State government released the sum of ₦500million to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in 2018 for its continued existence. LAUTECH started with 436 students, a number that has grown to about 25,000 in recent years.

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology provides several academic and non-academic facilities for its students. Some of these facilities include; a physical library, a digital library, lecture halls, an auditorium, a farm, a sport unit, a teaching hospital, hostels, an ICT centre and an X-ray Centre. Some notable alumni of LAUTECH include Shina Peller (Politician, owner club Quilox & CEO Aquila records), Peju Alatise (artist, poet, writer and a fellow at the National Museum of African Art), Samson Abioye (computer programmer and internet entrepreneur) and Seyi Olofinjana (former footballer).

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology accepts applications from local and international students for its Bachelors, Masters and PhD level programmes.

Bachelor’s Programmes: The two main ways to get admission into LAUTECH are either through “JAMB UTME Exam” or “Direct Entry”.

  Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates:
➤ Candidates should have one of the following qualifications; Cambridge A’Level, GCE A’Level, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB.
➤ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➤ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language and Mathematics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➤ Direct entry candidates do not need to write JAMB UTME. They just need to acquire and fill the JAMB Direct Entry Form.
*After a satisfactory admission screening or entrance test/interview, you will be directly admitted to the 200 Level (second year) course of your choice.

  Admission Requirements for JAMB UTME Candidates:
➨ Candidates seeking admission into 100 Level (first year) are required to write the JAMB UTME exam and score at least 165.
*Those who chose LAUTECH as their first choice and scored 165 & above in the JAMB UTME will then write LAUTECH’s Post UTME exam.
*Successful candidates will be given admission after consideration of their score at both the JAMB UTME and LAUTECH’s Post UTME exam.
➨ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➨ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) in 3 relevant subjects plus English language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➨ Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired bachelor’s degree programme/course.
➨ Candidates must also meet the stipulated Post UTME cut-off mark for their desired/chosen bachelor’s programme.

Master’s Programmes: To qualify for Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Bachelor degree with at least second class honours in a relevant discipline.

PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a master’s degree with a minimum score of 50% and 60%.

HOW TO APPLY
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment. Hence, prospective candidates should visit the website: www.admissions.lautech.edu.ng/ and follow all relevant information about the application process. LAUTECH’s cut-off mark for Jamb is 165, but the UTME cut-off marks are determined at the departmental levels. The application period into LAUTECH generally runs during the months of July.

Ogunlola migrated to the present site of Ogbomoso around 1650 in pursuit of his hunting career. He arrived at the site which was then a dense jungle with his wife named Esau, and together they camped beneath an Ajagbon tree which can still be seen.. more

Ogbomosho is a city in Oyo State, south-western Nigeria. The town was founded in the mid-17th century by Ogunlola, a brave hunter of Ibariba descent. Ogunlola migrated to the present site of Ogbomoso around 1650 in pursuit of his hunting career. He arrived at the site which was then a dense jungle with his wife named Esau, and together they camped beneath an Ajagbon tree which can still be seen today near the Soun’s palace. Later on, Ogunlola and his wife built a hut near the tree and settled there permanently. In most recent years, Ogbomosho is part of Oyo State which was one of the three States carved out of the former Western State of Nigeria in 1976. Oyo State consists of 33 Local Governments and 29 Local Council Development Areas. Oyo State has an equatorial climate with dry and wet seasons and relatively high humidity. Oyo State has a tropical climate with dry and wet seasons with relatively high humidity. It has an average daily temperature that ranges between 25 °C (77.0 °F) and 35 °C (95.0 °F), throughout the year.
Ogbomoso, Oyo State has a homogenous culture mainly inhabited by the Yoruba ethnic group who are primarily agrarian and love living in high-density urban centres. The economy of Oyo is based chiefly on agriculture and handicrafts. Its main agricultural products include; yams, corn, cassava, beans, millet, plantains, tobacco, cacao, palm oil and palm kernels, cotton, kola nuts, indigo, and fruits.

Ogbomosho, Oyo State is a metropolis with several buildings, constructed for administrative use during the colonial era. The Mapo Hall is a large City Hall built in the state, in colonial architectural fashion and that boasts of a mini-museum which hold various relics of the colonial era. The National Museum of unity serves as home to some priceless historical relics and artefacts that celebrate the rich historical culture of the Nigerian people.
The city has six top-rated parks that serve tourists and visitors as relaxation and recreational ground. Another hallmark of the city is its City Mall. It is a shopping mall that has various fashion stores, restaurant and food courts, a cinema, grocery outlets and entertainment centres.
For the sake of entertainment and enlightenment, the city still maintains the Western Nigeria Television, also known as WNTV, the first television service station launched in Nigeria and Africa. The National Library of Nigeria is a notable state repository of knowledge where various educational materials can be accessed by the public. Finally, the city Ogbomosho possesses several health centres that are well-equipped and staffed by professional medics to cater to the sick population.
