Kaduna State University, popularly known as KASU, is a state-owned university located in the city of Kaduna, northwestern Nigeria. This University was officially established in 2004, welcoming students of both sexes. This promulgation was galvanised by the need to promote education in the northern region of the country. To that effect, it witnessed the opening of two campuses; the main campus at Maiduguri Road, Kaduna and the second campus at Kafanchan. The university has no religious affiliation and is open to a diverse student body.

Kaduna State University has the vision of becoming a University of world-class standards with excellence in Applied Sciences and Sustainability studies. Research, education and community service are synergistic activities at KASU each nourishing and informing the other. It is also worth noting that KASU has an e-learning initiative, and it received a 250,000$ financial assistance from the ICT-University of the USA. The school offers Basic and Remedial Studies – a pre-degree programme for candidates who couldn’t gain admission into the University through JAMB and/or low UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) scores. The university has an android application, conceived to keep students abreast on university activities.

Kaduna State University provides a number of facilities for its students, some of these include; an e-learning centre, a library containing over 17,000 volumes of books, an e-library, a college of Basic Studies, a health & safety centre and university hostels.

Kaduna State University accepts applications from local and international students for its Bachelors, Masters and PhD level programmes.

Bachelor’s Programmes: The two main ways to get admission into KASU are either through “JAMB UTME Exam” or “Direct Entry”.

  Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates:
➤ Candidates should have one of the following qualifications; Cambridge A’Level, GCE A’Level, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB.
➤ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➤ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language and Mathematics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➤ Direct entry candidates do not need to write JAMB UTME. They just need to acquire and fill the JAMB Direct Entry Form.
*After a satisfactory admission screening or entrance test/interview, you will be directly admitted to the 200 Level (second year) course of your choice.

  Admission Requirements for JAMB UTME Candidates:
➨ Candidates seeking admission into 100 Level (first year) are required to write the JAMB UTME exam and score at least 170.
*Those who chose KASU as their first choice and scored 170 & above in the JAMB UTME will then write KASU’s Post UTME exam.
*Successful candidates will be given admission after consideration of their score at both the JAMB UTME and KASU’s Post UTME exam.
➨ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➨ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language and Mathematics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➨ Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired bachelor’s degree programme/course.
➨ Candidates must also meet the stipulated Post UTME cut-off mark for their desired/chosen bachelor’s programme.

Master’s Programmes: There are two types of masters programme offered:
1. Academic Master’s Degree Programmes: To qualify for academic Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Bachelor’s/ first degree from Kaduna State University or any recognized university.
■ Possess a Postgraduate Diploma with a CGPA of not less than 3.50.
2. Professional Master’s Degree Programmes: To qualify for professional Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Bachelor’s/ first degree from Kaduna State University or any recognized university.
■ Possess a Third Class Degree or HND and a Postgraduate Diploma from Kaduna State University or any recognized institution with a CGPA of not less than 3.50.

PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Master’s Degree from Kaduna State University or any recognized university in the proposed field of study with a minimum CGPA score of 3.50.

HOW TO APPLY
Kaduna State University has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment into its institution. Hence, the applicant should visit the https://forms.kasu.edu.ng  with the use of their computers or any mobile devices. They can equally download the KASU Android application on Play Store for relevant information pertaining to the application process. Kaduna State University’s JAMB and UTME cut off mark for undergraduate candidates is 170, and those who score above 170 are required to undertake a Post-UTME Online screening Examination that takes place in mid-July. The application process generally runs during this period.

Kaduna is the capital city of the Kaduna State, north-central Nigeria. It lies along the Kaduna River, a supreme tributary of the Niger River. The word Kaduna is a Hausa word that signifies “Crocodiles”, this site was earmarked by the then, the British governor of Northern Nigeria, Frederic Lugard for Town construction. After the division of the old Northern Region into six states in 1967, Kaduna became the Capital of the North-Central State and had a change in the appellation to Kaduna State.
The city has a tropical climate, characterised by heavy rainfall and an average temperature of 25.2oC. The Kaduna State is a multicultural and multi-ethnical state populated by about 59 to 63 different ethnic groups; that display a manifold of cultural diversity. This Kaduna state economy was the 15th largest state economy in Nigeria from 2002 to 2008.

Kaduna State provides over 1000 healthcare centres to carter to cater to the health needs of the population. It has a series of famous secondary and tertiary schools. It promotes entertainment through annual festivals. It has some tourist attractions, notably the Kaduna Museum. The security levels have been highly improved by the regular presence of security forces in the city. These facilities mentioned above may equally contribute to the wellbeing of the KASU students.

Scholarships

There are five (5) different scholarship schemes for applicants wishing to apply at KASU as follows:

  1. Need Base Scholarship (Candidates from indigent families)
  2. Merit Scholarship (Candidates having CGPA of 3.5 and above)
  3. School-Based Individual Scholarship (Candidates studying Health-related courses e.g. MBBS, Pharmacy, Nursing etc.
  4. Disability Scholarship (Candidates living with Special Needs
  5. Athletic Scholarship (Candidates taking parts in Sports for the State)

All candidates are at liberty to apply for any of the aforementioned scholarship schemes according to the suitability of their status.
