Ho Technical University (HTU) is a public university located in Ho, in the Volta Region of Ghana. Its establishment goes back to 1968, when it was a Technical Institute, with the main aim to provide pre-technical education.

Ho Technical University (HTU) is a public university located in Ho, in the Volta Region of Ghana. Its establishment goes back to 1968, when it was a Technical Institute, with the main aim to provide pre-technical education.
In 1986, the Institute became a Polytechnic and operated as a second cycle institution, till when it was upgraded to a full-fledged tertiary institution in 1993, by the PNDC Law 321. It was then charged with the responsibility of training students in technical and vocational skills to the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
Later in 2007, it was given a mandate by the Polytechnics Act 745 to award its own degree to the highest level, this leads it to now offer programmes from non-tertiary level to the bachelor degree level, and later received a permit to run Masters in Agricultural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

HTU is notable for its Business School which is known to be the largest school in the university in terms of students’ enrolment, with committed staff members versatile in teaching, research and community service.
Another popular faculty in the university is the Faculty of Arts & Design which is recognized as a top-notch trainer in the area of modern fashion and industrial arts. The University is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and in partnership with the Kenyatta University.
HTU has a mission, to train highly competent human resource through career-focused education, skill training and research in partnership with stakeholders. It holds as values Competency-Based Training, Fair Opportunities for all, Gender Equality, Respect for the Environment and Commitments to Quality.

HTU offers its students’ academic facilities like the Nunya library which provides both print and electronic resources, alongside an e-library that offers e-resources. There are business centres in and around campus that provide photocopying, printing, binding, internet services and other forms of services to the students and staff. The university houses the Volta Premier FM known as the VP FM.
Moreover, HTU provides non-academic facilities such as food joints, commercial area, guidance and counselling unit, halls of residence, a security unit and recreational facilities like a basketball court and athletics.

In 2018, a team from HTU were awarded GHC3,000, for winning the Best Product Idea Award, which was for developing a secured electronic voting system using the blockchain technology at the Hackathon contest, organized by Hacklab Foundation.
In the same year, the Computer Science and Industrial Arts Departments of HTU emerged winners of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) National Skills Competition.
The University’s Department of Computer Science signed a Memorandum of Understanding with three IT firms namely: Hacklab Foundation, LM Communications and Co Systems in 2018, with the aim of equipping the students with necessary skills for the job market.

A notable alumnus from Ho Technical University is Maureen Abla Amematekpor – Former Ghana Ambassador to Namibia and Botswana.

All mature applicants will be expected to pay an additional amount of GH¢150.00 on or before the day of the entrance examinations at the university campus. The GH¢ 150.00 will cover the cost of the entrance examinations.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate Admission Requirements
For Bachelor Degree Programmes
Candidates applying for undergraduate programmes should have either of the following:
Candidates should have at least six (6) passes in SSCE (A-D) including three (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies) and three (3) relevant elective subjects. OR
 Six (6) passes in WASSCE (A1-C6) including three (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies) and three (3) relevant elective subjects. OR
Three (3) passes in GCE Advanced Level (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (at least Grade 6) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English and a Science subject (for non-science students) and Arts subject for science students. OR
Three (3) passes in ABCE (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects including (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies) in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE). OR
HND in the related field or fields of study.
Any other equivalent qualification.
*Professional and other entry qualifications shall be assessed on a case-by-case basis as prescribed by the National Accreditation Board (NAB).

For Higher National Diploma
 HND applicant must have graduated with a good certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division) in the various areas of specialization.
Other Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.
Applicants would be admitted into level 200 and/or 300 depending on their certificates.

Mature Entry
Candidates must be at least 25 years old by the time of application.
Mature candidates shall be additionally required to prove their age with birth a certificate or similar recognized document showing date of birth.
The applicant must pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations (English Language, Mathematics and an Aptitude Test) conducted by the University.
In lieu of such examinations, the applicant should show proof of credit passes in English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard High School level examinations.

International Students
Applicants may be admitted on the basis of qualifications from their countries for which equivalence shall be determined by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana.
Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
Applicants are also requested to acquire Non-Citizens Ghana card as a pre-requisite for admission.
**Applicants who fail to provide evidence of having acquired this card will not have their applications processed.

Postgraduate Admission Requirement
 For Masters Programmes
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized Institution in the relevant or related field(s) of study (preferably in Agriculture, Engineering and Science disciplines) with a minimum of second class (Lower Division).
Applicants must have at least one year of relevant industrial experience.

HOW TO APPLY
Go to the University’s Admission Portal on the internet after you purchase the Ho Technical University Admission E-Voucher.
Log on to the online Admissions System with the Serial Number and PIN.
Follow steps on the Online Admission system to complete your application.
Enclose in an EMS envelope the following documents:
• A printed copy of your completed online application
• Photocopies of certificates or result slips, (transcripts for Top-up B-Tech applicants)
• Birth Certificates for mature applicants.
Post the enclosed EMS envelope to the address The Registrar, Ho Technical University, P. O. BOX HP 217, Ho – Ghana.

Ho is the regional capital of Volta Region located in, Ghana. The town got its name after a town in southern Denmark by the German when the Volta region was a German colony. Ho has an estimated population of about 70,000 majorities inhabited by the Heve and Bankoe people. Its yearly temperature varies from 22°C to 35°C. The town’s economy is defined by agriculture with cacao cultivation being their most prominent production alongside with palm oil and cotton.

The city is home to several tourist sites, some of which are the Wli Waterfalls, the Mount Afadjato and the Volta Regional Museum.
