The Federal University of Technology, Minna, also known as FUTMINNA, is an accredited federal university located in Minna, Niger State, North Central Nigeria. It was established on February 1st, 1983 as a specialized University of Technology. The university started with the facilities of the former Government Teachers’ College Bosso. The University later acquired a permanent site of 10,650 hectares of land along the Minna-Bida Road to serve as the permanent campus.
The University is well-known for its several academic achievements. These achievements include the design and fabrication of several valuable items such as the solar air heater, the motor-car crankshaft, a gearing system for crane hoist drives, a rice de-stoning machine, a maize sheller, a multi-purpose grinder, irrigation models, poultry feeder and a host of other creative innovations. It is worth noting that the University has gained recognition nationwide as a Centre for Excellence in Computer Science designated by the National Universities Commission. FUTMINNA started with 22 students, a number that has grown over the years to over 15,000 (13,000 undergraduate and 2,000 postgraduate students) and a staff of over 698 persons.
The Federal University of Technology, Minna, provides several facilities for its students. These facilities include Freshwater Resources, recreation & sports centres (a floodlit sports arena, athletics cinder tracks, badminton indoor courts, basketball courts, table tennis facilities, volleyball courts, football pitches, a fitness gymnasium), a student-run radio station, lecture halls and hostels. Some FUTMINNA notable alumni include Kemi Adesoye (Screenwriter), Dooshima Yemisi Suswam (Architect, Philanthropist), Paul Ikechukwu Obiefule (Footballer, Danish club Holstebro).

Federal University of Technology, Minna, accepts applications from local and international students for its Bachelors, Masters and PhD programmes.
Bachelor’s Programmes: The two main ways to get admission into FUTMINNA are either through “JAMB UTME Exam” or “Direct Entry”.
Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates:
➤ Candidates should have one of the following qualifications; Cambridge A’Level, GCE A’Level, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB.
➤ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➤ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language and Mathematics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➤ Direct entry candidates do not need to write JAMB UTME. They just need to acquire and fill the JAMB Direct Entry Form.
➤ Candidates should be aware that no admission shall be made based on awaiting O’Level results.
*After a satisfactory admission screening or entrance test/interview, you will be directly admitted to the 200 Level (second year) course of your choice.
Admission Requirements for JAMB UTME Candidates:
➨ Candidates seeking admission into 100 Level (first year) are required to write the JAMB UTME exam and score at least 180.
*Those who chose FUTMINNA as their first choice and scored 180 & above in the JAMB UTME will then write FUTMINNA’s Post UTME exam.
*Successful candidates will be given admission after consideration of their score at both the JAMB UTME and FUTMINNA’s Post UTME exam.
➨ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➨ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) in 3 relevant subjects plus English language and Mathematics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➨ Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired bachelor’s degree programme/course.
➨ Candidates must also meet the stipulated Post UTME cut-off mark for their desired/chosen bachelor’s programme.
Master’s Programmes: To qualify for Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a minimum of Second Class Honours/Bachelor’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, or any other recognized University.
■ Possess a Third Class Honours with at least 3 years of graduation experience in relevant fields may be considered.
PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Master’s degree with a CGPA score of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale from FUTMINNA or any other recognised university.
HOW TO APPLY
Federal University of Technology, Minna has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment. Hence, applicants should visit the website: www.eportal.futminna.edu.ng and follow all relevant information about the application process. FUTNINNA’s cut off mark is 190 for JAMB and 180 for UTME. The Application into FUTNINNA generally runs during the month of August.

It is commonly referred to as the “Power State” because of the existence of three hydroelectric power stations namely the Shiroro, Kainji and Jebba power stations in the state. Minna has a tropical climate, characterised by significant rainfall and its average annual temperature is 27.5 °C. Minna has an economy that is highly dependent on agriculture with main products being Cotton, guinea corn (sorghum), and ginger.
Minna has an extensive road network that connects to Abuja, Ibadan, Kano and Lagos. It is equally served by the Minna Airport that services fights in and out of the city. Minna boasts of a host of educational institutions such as the Federal University of Technology, Niger State School of Health and Niger State School of Nursing and Midwifery among others. The city is famous for its handicrafts and colourful market called Glasswork, Bida. The Shiroro Dam is one of the hydroelectric dam stations that generate electricity for the nation. A section of the dam was transformed into a resort for tourism and leisure. The city possesses the Dr Ladi Kwali Pottery Centre that trains traditional native potters in the art of modern pottery. The city boasts of a recycling centre. Finally, the city has several hospitals and hotels. These facilities may serve those wishing to study, visit or carry out an internship in the city.
