The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, also known as FUNAAB, is an accredited federal university located in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria.  FUNAAB was officially established on the 1st of January 1988. It was originally known as the Federal University of Technology, Abeokuta (FUTAB) in 1983. In 1984, FUTAB was merged with the University of Lagos and its name was changed to the College of Science and Technology, Abeokuta (COSTAB). The college later underwent a demerger that led to the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, is known for being one of the three specialized Universities of Agriculture in Nigeria. It is also known for replacing crude farming tools, with some state-of-the-art mechanized farming equipment. These tools include boom sprayers, fertiliser spreaders, riggers, harrows, plough and cassava harvesters. It is also known for its record harvest of Maize and other farm products, under the Community Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS) that feeds the entire Abeokuta community. FUNAAB has an enrolment of over 37,182 students and a staff of over 1,976 persons.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, provides several facilities for its students. Some of these include a soccer pitch with a pavilion for 1,500 spectators, a teaching hospital, an ambulance, a library with a total collection of 75,622 books, hostels, an ICT resource centre, a radio station, a zoo and an agricultural media resources & extension centre. Some notable alumni of FUNAAB include Lateef O. Sanni (First FUNAAB graduate to become a professor and DVC), Japheth J. Omojuwa (Social commentator), Oluseun Onigbinde (Techpreneur) and Kiss Daniel (Musician).

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta accepts applications from local and international students for its Bachelors, Masters and PhD level programmes.

Bachelor’s Programmes: The two main ways to get admission into FUNAAB are either through “JAMB UTME Exam” or “Direct Entry”.

Admission Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates:
➤ Candidates should have one of the following qualifications; Cambridge A’Level, GCE A’Level, HND, ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB.
➤ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➤ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) including English language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➤ Direct entry candidates do not need to write JAMB UTME. They just need to acquire and fill the JAMB Direct Entry Form.
*After a satisfactory admission screening or entrance test/interview, you will be directly admitted to the 200 Level (second year) course of your choice.

  Admission Requirements for JAMB UTME Candidates:
➨ Candidates seeking admission into 100 Level (first year) are required to write the JAMB UTME exam and score at least 180.
*Those who chose FUNAAB as their first choice and scored 180 & above in the JAMB UTME will then write FUNAAB’s Post UTME exam.
*Successful candidates will be given admission after consideration of their score at both the JAMB UTME and FUNAAB’s Post UTME exam.
➨ You will need to be at least 16 years of age.
➨ Possess five O’Level credit passes (WAEC/WASSCE, NECO, GCE or NABTEB) in 3 relevant subjects plus English language, Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics. It must be in not more than two sittings.
➨ Candidates must choose the correct JAMB subject combination for their desired bachelor’s degree programme/course.
➨ Candidates must also meet the stipulated Post UTME cut-off mark for their desired/chosen bachelor’s programme.

Master’s Programmes: To qualify for Master’s Degree Programmes, candidates must:
■ Be First/Bachelor’s degree holders in a relevant discipline from any recognized University.
■ Possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science or B.Sc. Physical Sciences/Engineering and Allied Disciplines. For MICT programme candidates.

PhD Programmes: To qualify for PhD Programmes, candidates must:
■ Possess a Master’s degree from FUNAAB or its equivalent from any other University recognized by Senate.
■ Submit a research proposal along with their application forms.

HOW TO APPLY
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta has set up an online portal to assist candidates seeking enrolment. Hence, the applicant should visit the website: pg.funaab.edu.ng and follow all relevant information about the application process. FUNAAB’s cut off mark is 180 for jamb and UTME Score. The application period into FUNAAB generally runs during the months of July, August and September.

Abeokuta is the capital of Ogun State in southern Nigeria. The city is situated on the east bank of the Ogun River. Abeokuta was founded in 1830 after the intertribal wars in Egba between 1817 and 1830. The name of the town “ABEOKUTA” was derived from the Olumo Rock, meaning ‘the refugees under a rock’. In 1914, the city was made part of the British colony of Nigeria. It later witnesses the Abeokuta Women’s Revolt of 1940, led by Abeokuta Women’s Union (AWU). This was a resistance movement against the imposition of unfair taxation by the Nigerian colonial government.  Finally, Abeokuta became the capital of the newly created Ogun State in 1976. Abeokuta has a tropical climate with an average temperature of 27.1 °C. Abeokuta has a culture manifested in traditional attires, cuisines, literature and anthem singing. The city’s economy depends mainly on agriculture and exports.

Abeokuta, Ogun State has a total of nine registered universities; the highest of any state in Nigeria. Coupled to that are five private universities, three federal secondary schools and a lot of other educational institutions for the education of its inhabitants. The city possesses two general hospitals, a mission hospital, six community hospitals and many private health institutions equipped and staffed with well-trained medics. The Airport of Abeokuta services flights in and out of the city. The Hi-Impact Planet Amusement Park is a well-known park open to everyone. Other available landmarks are the Arakanga Nature Reserve, Akarigbo’s Palace and the Awujale Palaces. The city has an Ancient rocky outcrop with a museum.
