Busitema University (BU) is a public university located in Tororo, Eastern Region of Uganda. It was established in 2007 and was envisaged to improve equitable access to University Education in the country since there was no public university in the region.

Busitema University (BU) is a public university located in Tororo, Eastern Region of Uganda. It was established in 2007 and was envisaged to improve equitable access to University Education in the country since there was no public university in the region.

BU opened its door to its first batch of students on the 3rd October 2007. The University embraces firmly its core values which are Excellence, Relevance, Innovativeness, Professionalism, Ethics, Integrity, Equity, Internationalization and Respect for diversity.

It initially started with two campuses; Busitema and Nagongera focusing on Engineering and Technology disciplines respectively. To date, the university has seven campuses namely Busitema Campus, Mbale Campus, Palisa Campus, Namasagali Campus, Nagongera Campus, Arapai Campus, Kaliro Campus.

Busitema University is ranked the 9th best university in Uganda according to Webometrics. Its main ambitions are to provide high standard training, engage in quality research and outreach for socio-economic transformation and sustainable development.

In 2012, BU received textile laboratory machines worth Shs800million. A student from Busitema University won the third price of Shs 2.3 million for designing an app during the Orange Community Innovations Awards in 2013.

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) planned to open a Science and Information Technology industrial park in Busitema University in 2015, which will generate income for the university and help transform the economy.

In 2015, a 1.5 billion 27kilometer piped water project was constructed from Tororo town to BU main campus to upgrade the water system in the town and university.

BU in 2017, implemented the Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) project which include the library, the lecture and laboratory complex and the central mechanical workshop that will serve as a technical business innovation and incubation centre, which was commended and funded by the African Development Bank (ADB).

In 2018, a new innovation known as a light board which is the first of its kind in the country’s university system was invented by a lecturer in the Busitema University, in order to aid lecturers, have eye contact with the learners and enhances E-learning.

Busitema University offers its students and staff several resources to facilitate their stay on campus. It offers accommodation to its students and makes sure that food is provided for students at a friendly rate.

BU has a library with a collection of both 10990 hard copies and soft forms of information materials. Students can subscribe to Electronic resources to access journals, e-books, e-data and other electronic resources.

The university campus has an ICT centre that ensures constant, reliable and available internet connectivity, provision of e-mail services, telephony, technical support to computer laboratories and creating awareness to students and staff on usage of ICT systems.

For Undergraduate Degree Programmes
• Have the Uganda Certificate of Education with at least (five passes), or it’s equivalent and the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two (2) principal passes in prescribed subjects obtained at the same sitting. Or
• Hold at least a Second Class or Credit Diploma from a recognized institution

For Diploma Courses
• Applicants should have the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five (5) passes.
• Applicants Should also have Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least one (1) principal pass in prescribed subjects and two (2) subsidiaries obtained at the same sitting.
• Only candidates who sat A’ Level in 2018, 2017 and 2016 are eligible to apply.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements
For Masters Diploma Programmes
• A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited University in a subject or subjects relevant to the course applied for.

For Masters Degree Programmes

Tororo District is located in the Eastern Region of Uganda. In 1967, Bukedi District came into existence when the new constitution was formulated by the then regime.

Its headquarters was changed from Mbale to Tororo and went operational in 1968. Its name was later changed to Tororo District during Amini’s time. The District is inhabited by the Iteso ethnic group.

Its headquarters was changed from Mbale to Tororo and went operational in 1968. Its name was later changed to Tororo District during Amini’s time. The District is inhabited by the Iteso ethnic group.

In Tororo District, the summers are short, hot and overcast and the winters are long, comfortable, wet and mostly cloudy. Its yearly temperature varies from 16 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius and is rarely below 15 degrees Celcius.

It has an estimated population of about 517,080 inhabitants, with Christianity being the most prominent religion in the district and country at large.

The economy of this district is defined by agriculture. They produce Millet, Cassava, peas and more which is consumed locally or sold in the urban areas of the District.

Tororo houses major industries like the Tororo Cement Limited which is the national cement company in Uganda. It has an airport called Tororo Airport that transports its inhabitants in and out of the country.

The District is a beautiful one which has several landmarks that attract tourist and visitors, some of which are; the Tororo Rock and the Sisiyi Falls.
