Bahir Dar University is located in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.

Bahir Dar is the capital of the Amhara Regional State. When translated from the Ge’ez language, the city’s name means “seashore”. This name is very fitting because Bahir Dar sits near the Blue Nile River and Lake Tana. It borders on a tropical savanna climate and a subtropical highland climate. Bahir Dar’s climate features warm/hot afternoons and cool mornings.
It has an average annual temperature of approximately 20 degrees Celsius. The language which dominates the area is Amharic, spoken by over 95% of the city’s population; the total population is just over 750000.

Bahir Dar is a beautiful place to live and study in. It is a prime tourist location, owing to the several attractions near the aforementioned water bodies. It is renowned for its colourful flowers and palm trees, which gloriously line its avenues.
The Blue Nile waterfall is also a popular tourist destination. Back in 2002, the city won the UNESCO Cities for Peace Prize for addressing the problems of rapid urbanization.
