Ogun State is a state in southwestern Nigeria. Ogun State was created from the old Western State on February 3, 1976, by the then regime of General Murtala Mohammed. Abeokuta is the state’s largest and capital city. Ogun began gaining prominence in the 90s, and it eventually became an industrial town, due to the concerted efforts of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Chief Bisi Onabanjo (former governor of Ogun State).
Ogun is one of the coldest regions in Nigeria with an average daily high temperature of over 32 0C. The language being spoken and understood by most people of Ogun State is Yoruba – broken into scores of dialects. A remarkable feature of the Ogun people is their respect for several festivals, their belief in traditional deities and their distinct cuisine. Ogun has an economy that is highly dependent on businesses and industries present in the city.

Ogun State is reputed for having the highest number of registered universities in Nigeria (nine in all) and five new private universities. Several sections of the town are dominated by industries and businesses- fertile places for students in search of jobs or internships. The city has the Birikisu Sungbo shrine, which is a tourist centre where Muslims all over the world converge for prayers. The city also possesses the MKO Abiola Stadium, a 35,000 person capacity stadium that is mostly used for football.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport services flight both in and out of the city. Finally, the city has a host of well-equipped hospitals that are staffed with professional medics. Deciding to study at BU may be facilitated by the available resources in the state.
