Ardhi University (ARU) is a public institution located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Its establishment dates back to 1956 when the then Surveying Training School offering land surveying technician certificate courses was established at the present location of Mgulani Salvation Army Camp in Dar es Salaam.
In 1972, the school was called Ardhi Institute which offered two-year diploma programmes in the fields of Land Surveying and Land Management and Valuation.
ARU came about after the transforming of the former University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS) which was then a constituent college of the University of Dar es Salaam from 1st July 1996.
In 2005, the institution gained its university status and signed the Ardhi University Charter by the President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania in March 2007.

ARU has one campus called the Arbi University campus which is located in Dar es Salaam. The famous school of the university is the School of Architecture Construction Economics and Management (SACEM) and School of Earth Sciences, Real Estate Studies, Business and Informatics (SERBI). ARU counts over 2500 students.
The university is affiliated to the University of Dar es Salaam, the Association of African Universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Its mission is to provide innovative integrated learning, research and public services that advance sustainable development at the national level and beyond.
It as well holds as values integrity, creativity, excellence, equity, teamwork, internationalization and professionalism.

ARU offers its students library and sporting facilities. It also provides lecture theatres, pediatric ward, Kyerucu Tourist Hotel, deans building, postgraduate building, architecture plaza and an ongoing construction of lands building on the Ardhi University campus.

Ardhi university is ranked the 6th best university in Tanzania according to Webometrics. In 2018, ARU became the first African varsity to introduce and use ZC-3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) which is specifically designed to obtain quality information for mapping requirements, as well as taking pictures for various geographical uses.
More so, the university breaks gender bias as on the 7th of March, before the Women’s Day in 2020, its management vowed to empower women at the university to work hard and be employed in decision-making positions.
Notwithstanding, in the same year, students from ARU alongside with the University of Dar es Salaam and Mbeya University of Science and Technology, designed modern food kiosk for food vendors to ensure food safety and protect public health.

A notable alumnus from Ardhi University IS Comfort Badaru – Managing Editor of ANZA magazine. For more inquiries about the university, you can visit their official website. www.aru.ac.tz

Ardhi University is located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Other universities located in this city are University of Dar es Salaam, Kampala International University in Tanzania, Tanzania Institute of Accountancy, the Institute of Finance Management, and Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology.

Dar es Salaam is the former capital and the most populous city of Tanzania. It served as the capital city of Tanzania from 1961 to 1973, having been the administrative and commercial centre of the region as far back as the 1900s.
Dar es Salaam went through a tumultuous period of growth between 1973 and the late 1990s, before finally emerging in the 2000s as one of Africa’s leading cities. It experienced rapid urbanization rates as businesses opened and flourished, leading to growth in the construction sector.
Dar es Salaam experiences a tropical wet and dry climate, typified by hot and humid weather throughout the year.  Average temperatures range from 20.9 degrees Celsius to 30.7 degrees Celsius. The total population of Dar es Salaam is just over 6.5 million people.
It is Tanzania’s most important city as far as business and government are concerned, although it is largely dependent on agriculture for employment. It is characterized by high concentrations of trade and manufacturing, compared to other parts of Tanzania.

Tourism is a key attraction in Dar es Salaam, with the town boasting two museums, botanical gardens, and several beaches. The Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve is a popular spot for day trips from the city.  The Udzungwa Mountains National Park offers breathtaking views and friendly local guides for bold and adventurous travellers.
It is also home to the country’s only stock exchange. In addition, it boasts a shopping mall, a large fish market, a Central Business District spread across several wards and even a natural harbour.
