Osun State is an inland state in the south-western region of Nigeria with its capital at Osogbo. It has a total population of over 704,690. Osun State was created in 1991 from part of the old Oyo State.

The name Osun is derived from the river Osun, the venerated natural spring representing the Yoruba goddess with the same name. Osun State was created after a series of pressure mounted on the federal military government for an extended period by the founding fathers (most of whom were traditional rulers and community leaders).

The state was created with 30 local government areas and over 200 towns, villages & other settlements. Osun State has a tropical climate with an average annual temperature of 26.1 °C.

The main tribe of Osun State is Yoruba that practice a yearly cultural festival every August, along the banks of the river bearing. People of the state practice Islam, Christianity and paganism called traditional faith.

Osun’s economy is based mainly on agriculture, and its major crops include yams, cassava, corn, beans, millet, plantains, cacao, palm oil and kernels, and fruits.

Osun State has an extensive road network that connects to other states such as the Kwara State and Owu-Ogun State. This road network maintains boundary highways, intercity roads, township roads, local government roads and rural roads.

The city also encourages air movements within and out of state through its international airport dubbed: the MKO Abiola International Airport. Osun maintains the Ede Water Works to achieve an abundant flow of clean pipe-borne water across the state.

Osun possesses numerous cultural landmarks with historical and cultural significances such as the Ife Museum (that collects and preserves relics of antiquities that are found in Ile Ife), the museum of arts (the best museum of arts in Nigeria), the African Heritage Gallery and the Nike Centre for Arts & Culture (that enrols students to enable them to sell their works).

Some notable companies in the state include SpyLoadedNG Media, Dc Heavenly Gate, 3REE Interior Design & Maintenance, Royal Park International Hotel & Resort, Shaddle Field Farms that may serve as important areas for the pursuance of internships and employment.

The state encourages sports through its 10,000 person capacity, multi-use stadium. Osun has several accommodation services of varying options, affordable to both students and visitors.
