Sociology is a popular interdisciplinary subject combination for students planning to join professions such as law, business, architecture, medicine, social work, community development, politics and public administration.

The study of sociology is an invitation to reflect on the role of normative social life by looking at it sociologically. Self reflection is a fundamental aspect of sociology’s scientific tasks and asking of key sociological questions.

Sociology rigorously studies society to investigate structures of groups, organizations, societies and how people interact in various contexts. By studying sociology learners develop critical awareness and understanding of social issues in both local and global context and making sense of the world around them.

It helps learners see that social structures, institutions, and processes profoundly shape who they are and have the ability to influence the present and coming social futures. Sociology helps learners to understand themselves in relation to other people and larger social institutions and processes.Students will be better equipped to think and act in more socially and ethically responsible manner, by putting themselves in the situation of others and imagine how society can be improved.
