Programme Overview

Renewable energy refers to energy from naturally replenishing sources, such as the sun, wind, water, biofuels or the earth’s sub-surface (geothermal energy). These types of energy sources, like non-renewable energy sources, require technology for harnessing.

Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy and Technology offers an opportunity to the students to study the Physics of the Renewable Energy Sources, the Renewable Energy and the Technologies involved in harnessing the different forms of Renewable Energy. This programme will produce graduates capable of applying Renewable Energy Technologies in harnessing Renewable Energy and pursue careers in the field of Renewable Energy either at postgraduate level or as a consultant.


– The programme takes 4 years

In the first year of study each student will be required to take thirteen (13) core units. In addition each student will be required to take three (3) University common units. In second year of study, each student will be required to take fourteen (14) core units and two (2) Faculty common units while in third year of study, each student will be required to take thirteen (13) core units and one (1) Faculty unit.
In fourth year of study, each student will take twelve (12) core units, one (1) Faculty unit and one (1) University unit. Unless otherwise stated, each course is one unit. Each unit shall comprise the equivalent of 45 contact hours spread over 14 teaching weeks.

**Applications should be made on prescribed forms obtainable from the MMU website ( or the office of Corporate Affairs at MMU Main Campus OR the Director’s Office at MMU Nairobi CBD Campus located at Uniafric House, Fourth Floor, Loita Street, upon payment of a non-refundable application fee shown: CERTIFICATE = Kshs.500.00; DIPLOMA = Kshs.500.00; BACHELORS = Kshs.1000.00; MASTERS = Kshs.1500.00

Applicants should provide the following documents:
– Copy of National ID / Passport / Birth Certificate OR any other document(s) that can be used to identify the new Student.
– Copy of KCSE result slips/KCSE Certificate, Leaving Certificate and any other Academic transcripts (where applicable).
– 4 Coloured Passport Photos
– Medical Report

** The Multimedia University of Kenya has three intakes: January (Application Deadline = 19 November 2020), May (Application Deadline = March 2021) and September.

Tuition Fees for Kenyan and East African applicants: $1,236
Tuition Fees for International Students: $1,483

Tuition fee per year for Kenyan Students = Kshs. 136,000
Tuition fee per year for International Students = Kshs 163,200
– Students from Countries in the East African  Community (EAC), pay the same amount as Kenyan Students. The six countries in the East African Community include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
– International students who are not in the East African Community (EAC), pay 20% more than the others for tuition fees.
All students must pay full fees on the reporting day. The payments will be in form of bank deposit slips with their full names and admission numbers written on them as they appear in their Letter of Offer.
