Programme Overview

The university shall admit for the BSc Nursing degree program, academically qualifed candidates, having met the Nursing Council of Kenya entry requirements, and those who accept the University’s Christian mission and philosophy as provided under Sections 4 to 7 of the university charter, without regard or preference to gender, ethnic origin, race being imposed as a condition for admission.

Bachelor of Science Nursing degree will be offered for nursing students who wish to pursue the program to completion. The University may consider other criteria approved by Senate that enhances quality.

Requirements for Graduation
All candidates who pass the prescribed examinations in all semesters shall, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners and with the approval of Senate, be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN). The pass mark in all core courses for the BSc Nursing programme is ‘‘D+(D Plus)” with a score of at least 50%. In order to graduate with BSc Nursing, a student must have covered 200 credit-hours and pass at GPA of 2.00 on a scale of 4.00.

Combined Sciences
– Physical Science or Biological Sciences (C+)
– Mathematics (C+)
– English or Kiswahili (C+)
Or K.A.C.E; 2 or more Principals, with one in Biology and one in Chemistry

Daystar admission forms are collected from either Athi-River campus or the Nairobi campus. On completion, the form is handed back to the registrar office with a fee of KSh. 2,000 which is not refundable. Deadlines for the application are; 30th November, 30th April and 31st July for January, May and August intakes respectively. Other required documents are:
– Two recent passport size photos for Kenyan student and four for international students all having names at the back
– Secondary, post-secondary, university or college certificates.
– Financial Information Sheet (Foreign students need to include a financial letter from sponsor guaranteeing payment)
– Completed student information sheet and copy of your passport (For foreign students only).

Tuition Fees for Kenyan Students: $1,493

*Tuition fees per year for Kenyan Students = 161,430KES
*Tuition fees per year for Foreign Students= 167,430KES

International Students pay an additional 6000KES (Day students), 8000KES (Boarding Students) of orientation fees to the normal tuition fees.

All fees for each semester are payable in advance or before the date of registration by bankers cheque or direct bank deposit. The University does not accept cash payments or money orders. In order to assist sponsors who cannot raise full fees, the University allows payment of tuition and hostel fees in four equal monthly instalments from the first day of the semester. Sponsors wishing to pay the fees by instalments must apply to the Finance Manager before the semester begins.
