Programme Overview

This is a rigorous 2-year programme aimed at providing advanced management information systems training to highly qualified degree holders. It is geared towards developing the research capacities of participant students and is positioned as a breeding programme for doctoral candidates in Information Systems.

The emphasis is research and students spend the entire second year in the programme writing an MPhil thesis under supervision. MPhil Management Information Systems students take such courses as Theories in Information Systems, Technology Leadership and Knowledge Management, E-Business, Business Information Systems, and Systems Analysis and Design.

The aim of this programme is to equip graduates with critical and analytical skills for researching, teaching and defining solutions to the opportunities and challenges in adopting, implementing and using information technology in firms and institutions. The programme is aimed at participants who are seeking into develop careers in academic and research institutions or in fields which require the teaching and research on information systems.
In relation to the above aims, the following objectives are outlined:

  1. Impart knowledge on existing and emerging information technologies and their impact on organisational/business processes;
  2. Train participants to critically research the need, design, adoption and impact of information systems on firms, society and the nation;
  3. Provide participants the expertise in the quantitative and qualitative research approaches to address issues related to information systems adoption and usage; and
  4. Provide participants the skills to teach or transfer knowledge on information systems.

Admission Requirements

A good first degree (at least a Second Class Lower) in a relevant field of study from any recognised university and a minimum of three (3) years work experience. There is one admission in August every year. An entrance examination or interview may be conducted.

GHANAIAN APPLICANTS

University of Ghana application e-voucher can be obtained by Ghanaian applicants for GH¢ 200.00 at the following banks: Zenith Bank, Universal Merchant Bank, Ecobank, HFC Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Unibank, Ghana Commercial Bank, Prudential Bank and Fidelity Bank. Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the voucher when completing the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM.

Applicants who did not graduate from the University of Ghana must submit the following documents online (Scan and Attach):
• Bachelors’ Degree Certificate and Transcript (The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the application)

Applicants who graduated from this university should scan and attach only their certificates to their applications.
NOTE THAT NO APPLICATION WILL BE PROCESSED WITHOUT THE CERTIFICATE. The originals will be required during interviews.
All applicants who graduated from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their ‘STUDENT IDENTITY NUMBERS’ on their forms before submission.

All applicants are expected to pay to the University a non-refundable application processing fee of US$110.00. This fee can be paid directly or wire transferred into the UNIVERSITY OF GHANA ECOBANK ACCOUNT.

The pay-in-slips together with applicants’ certificates and transcripts should be scanned and attached to the application form before submission. The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the application.

Note that no application will be processed without proof of payment of the fee.
