Programme Overview

This a rigorous 2-year programme which equips participants with the know-how in aligning information and communication technology tools with business processes to solve contemporary challenges.

Courses taught include Systems Analysis and Design, Electronic Business, Management Informatics, Decision Analysis, Contemporary Application Development, Database Systems, and Legal and Social Implications of Informatics among others. In the second year, in addition to courses in Management Information Systems and other areas, students also write a two-semester long essay under supervision.

The MBA programme is also available during the weekend for busy workers who cannot enroll for the regular MBA programme. It is structured the same way as the regular MBA programme however lectures are on Fridays from 6:00pm – 9:00pm and Saturdays from 7:30am – 8:30pm.

The aim of this programme is to equip graduates as hybrid managers who have the critical and analytical skills for defining solutions to the opportunities and challenges in adopting, implementing and using information technology in firms and institutions.

The programme is aimed at participants have an aptitude for information systems, and have backgrounds in information technology management, computer science, computer engineering, electronics engineering, information studies, and related fields.
In relation to the above aims, the following objectives are outlined:

• Impart knowledge on applying sound managerial concepts and principles in the development and operation of information systems;
• Train participants to critically analyse business processes, identify inefficiencies and problems, assess information requirements, create business solutions and technical specifications for the supporting systems;
• Provide participants the expertise to design and develop database applications using the latest database technologies;
• Train participants in interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with various information systems’ clients; and
• Train participants to develop supporting policies, standards and guidelines to govern the appropriate and efficient use of information systems in business and by clients.

Admission Requirements

The requirement is a good first degree (at least a Second Class Lower) from a recognised university with at least two (2) years relevant work experience. There is one admission in August every year. An entrance examination or interview may be conducted.

University of Ghana application e-voucher can be obtained by Ghanaian applicants for GH¢ 200.00 at the following banks: Zenith Bank, Universal Merchant Bank, Ecobank, HFC Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, Unibank, Ghana Commercial Bank, Prudential Bank and Fidelity Bank. Applicants should follow carefully the instructions on the voucher when completing the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM.

Applicants who did not graduate from the University of Ghana must submit the following documents online (Scan and Attach):
• Bachelors’ Degree Certificate and Transcript (The transcript should be scanned into one PDF or WORD document and attached to the application)

Applicants who graduated from this university should scan and attach only their certificates to their applications.
NOTE THAT NO APPLICATION WILL BE PROCESSED WITHOUT THE CERTIFICATE. The originals will be required during interviews.
All applicants who graduated from the University of Ghana from 1996 to date should indicate their ‘STUDENT IDENTITY NUMBERS’ on their forms before submission.
