Programme Overview

In a rapidly changing world, there is a need to train graduates who are well versed with local, national, regional and international trends in governance and global affairs. It is in appreciation of the importance of both glocalization and globalization in contemporary governance and inter-state relations that the Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Relations programme has been designed.

The B.A. (Government and International Relations) offers a wide range of courses that resonates well with the processes of governance, devolution, public policies, security, international affairs and terrorism currently vogue in an increasingly international system.

Commitment to good governance and peaceful resolution of local and inter-state disputes for sustainable development.

Governance, whether local, national, regional or international requires well-trained experts because the destiny of individuals, nation-states and the organized life of civilizations as we know it depends upon the decisions made by the few who govern. The tragedies of the First and Second World Wars, as well as the horrors of recent genocides and ethnic pogroms, remind us how vulnerable we are.

This curriculum is designed to address this existential need. Specifically, this programme will impart and develop competencies in good governance at all levels of governance, good work ethic desirable in a public servant, prudent and efficient public resources management, conflict management and resolution of disputes at all levels.

The goal of this programme is to produce graduates with advanced competencies, employable in public policy, public administration at both the county and national government, as consultants for political leaders and government institutions, civil society and international non-governmental organizations

Structure, Duration and Mode of Delivery
The programme takes four (4) academic years for full-time students. Part-time students will take a minimum of six (6) academic years. The students will study the core courses in Government and International Relations. In their third and fourth years, students will take one elective in each category (GOVT and INRE) each semester in addition to the core courses designated for every semester.

They will also take Four (4) University Common Units as well as a course in Introduction to the French Language as indicated in the Schedule below. In order to graduate, students in the programme must successfully complete a minimum of 66 C.F’s and a maximum of 72 C.F’s in both GOVT and INRE.

Thus, the total C.F’s required for a student to graduate should be a minimum of 147 and a maximum of 159. The programme will be offered on a Full-time basis, Part-time or Work-based and Evening and Distance Learning mode.
