Programme Overview

The Faculty of Media and Communication is one of the largest providers of practice-based media education and related subjects in Kenya. Whether you aspire to be a newspaper reporter, magazine columnist, a TV/radio announcer, or reporter, or graphic designer, a Certificate, a Diploma or Degree in Mass Communication will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Students produce their own magazine, short films, TV and Radio programmes from the MMU 99.9 FM Radio station. Training is conducted in state-of-the art media studios equipped with the latest video and audio editing suites, providing students with a stimulating and exciting context in which to undertake their studies.

Admission Requirements

KCSE mean grade of C+ and a minimum of C+ in English and Kiswahili or A-Level two principal passes and one subsidiary pass in the relevant subjects or relevant professional qualifications approved by the University Senate. Successful Diploma graduates with at least a CREDIT Pass will join in 2nd Year

**Applications should be made on prescribed forms obtainable from the MMU website ( or the office of Corporate Affairs at MMU Main Campus OR the Director’s Office at MMU Nairobi CBD Campus located at Uniafric House, Fourth Floor, Loita Street, upon payment of a non-refundable application fee shown: CERTIFICATE = Kshs.500.00; DIPLOMA = Kshs.500.00; BACHELORS = Kshs.1000.00; MASTERS = Kshs.1500.00

Applicants should provide the following documents:
– Copy of National ID / Passport / Birth Certificate OR any other document(s) that can be used to identify the new Student.
– Copy of KCSE result slips/KCSE Certificate, Leaving Certificate and any other Academic transcripts (where applicable).
– 4 Coloured Passport Photos
– Medical Report

** The Multimedia University of Kenya has three intakes: January (Application Deadline = 19 November 2020), May (Application Deadline = March 2021) and September.

Career Opportunities

Animators have opportunities to work with video games, special effects, web animation, advertising and e-learning in addition to opportunities in traditional film animation. Film Producers have opportunities in production and post production houses and even game design houses. They can also work as freelance camera operators, sound recordists and in film distribution companies.

Tuition Fees for Kenyan and East African applicants: $1,408
Tuition Fees for International Students: $1,690

Tuition fee per year for Kenyan Students = Kshs 155,000
Tuition fee per year for International Students = Kshs 186,000
– Students from Countries in the East African  Community (EAC), pay the same amount as Kenyan Students. The six countries in the East African Community include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
– International students who are not in the East African Community (EAC), pay 20% more than the others for tuition fees.
All students must pay full fees on the reporting day. The payments will be in form of bank deposit slips with their full names and admission numbers written on them as they appear in their Letter of Offer.
