Rationale
Arid and semi–arid lands ASALs. occupy 80% of Kenya‘s total land surface. Despite its fragile nature, ASALs serves as important biodiversity reservoirs, wildlife habitat, and a resource for livestock production, various minerals, renewable energy and landscape of great attraction. Sustained productivity from these ASAL ecosystems is needed for economic and social development of the country in line with vision 2030. The programme is intended to produce specialists in range resource management and dry land farming.
Programme Objectives
The curriculum is designed especially to promote the following skills/ objectives;
i) To assess the quality and quantity of ASAL resources and their influence upon resource production.
ii) To integrate this knowledge into management recommendation and to evaluate different strategies from the aspect of sustainability.
iii) To reduce or overcome infrastructural constraints and limitations with regard to market and trade restrictions and, therefore, enhancing the marketability of dryland farm products.
iv) Enhance conservation of biodiversity through nature-based tourism.
v) Equip stakeholders with relevant education in natural resource management and dryland farming.
vi) Create entrepreneurship attitude among graduates of this programme.
Course Structure and Duration
Regular students will take four academic years. Part-time students shall be put on a tailor-made programme to ensure that they cover all the C.Fs required. To graduate from this programme, a student must have acquired the CF of 199.5.
The coding of courses offered by the Department Natural Resources is represented by DLRM followed by a three digit figure:The first digit represents the year in which the course is offered to undergraduate students.The second digit represents the nature of the course within the department.

Examination regulations
All examinations for the B Sc. in Dryland Resources Management shall be conducted in accordance with examination regulations as stipulated in Egerton University Statute
XXVIII.
Grading
The grading of examination for B Sc. in Dryland Resources Management shall be in accordance with Egerton University Statute XXVIII.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a B Sc. in Dryland Resources Management a student shall be required to take and pass all required courses within the stipulated time.
Degree Classification
The classification for B Sc. Dryland Resources Management shall be in accordance with Egerton University Statute XXVIII for undergraduate students
Admission Requirements
Candidates must have achieved the minimum entry requirements for university, and at least grade B- in Biology or B in Biological Sciences, B- in Geography, C+ in Chemistry or B- in Physical Sciences and C+ in Mathematics at K.C.S.E. or equivalent examinations. An added advantage will be given to candidates who have passed with at least a C grade in Agriculture or Economics at K.C.S.E or equivalent examination.
Admission will also be granted to outstanding Diploma holders who have passed with Distinction, Credit or equivalent in Range Management, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Animal Health, Wildlife and other related fields recognized by the University Senate.
These categories of students will qualify for a maximum of 30% credit transfer and thus shortening the duration of their course.

– Copy of your National ID Card or Birth Certificate.
Online application procedure
– Simply complete the Egerton University Online Application form and upload all the necessary documents, so that it can be processed by the administrative department
– The application will be complete once all the necessary fees have been paid.

**EAC (East African Community) Students pay the same amount as Kenyan students. Countries in the East African Community include; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
NOTE:
– Foreign students out of the East African Community pay 30% more than the Kenyan students.
– The University reviews tuition fees on a regular basis.
