Programme Overview

This is a one-year sandwich programme taken over a period of two semesters, allowing students to keep their full time jobs while pursuing a master’s degree. This programme is in response to the need to equip clinical staff (e.g. Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, and Pharmacist etc.), allied health staff (e.g. Laboratory/investigations Professionals, Biostatisticians, Biomedical Engineers, Housekeeping etc.), and other health professionals with appropriate leadership and management skills for effective functioning at the clinical/hospital/health facility level.

Health professionals play important management and leadership roles at the facility level. However, many of them have not received management and/or leadership training that equips them with the critical skill-sets to function effectively. Thus, to fill this capacity gap, the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management (PAHS) has in consultation with the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, introduced Master of Science in Clinical Leadership and Management Programme.

The programme seeks to equip participants with the needed leadership and management competences to address routine problems, especially at the clinical/health facility level.

Students would attend lectures in June every year and write exams in August the same year. Lectures would be held from Monday to Sunday from 8:00am to 6:00pm

This innovative programme is designed for professional healthcare workers who are keen to learn more about leadership and management techniques. The programme links theory to practice by combining academic teaching with work-based learning. It covers theories of leadership and managing change, and enables the participants to carry out projects that are relevant to their workplace. Thus, this programme is targeted at Doctors, Nurses, Midwives, Pharmacist, Laboratory/investigations Professionals, Biostatisticians, Biomedical Engineers, Housekeeping and all other professionals in the health sector
